Facilities

Overview

The Salomon Laboratory combines dedicated wet-lab and tissue-culture space, substantial computational infrastructure, direct access to the adjacent Brown Proteomics Core Facility, and university resources in imaging, genomics, flow cytometry, structural biology, and biophysics. Together, these capabilities support mechanistic studies of T cell and CAR T cell signaling from sample preparation through quantitative analysis.

Lab Equipment

Wet-lab capabilities

  • Dedicated wet-lab and tissue-culture space with laminar-flow hoods and CO2 incubators
  • PCR, electrophoresis, microscopy, refrigerated centrifugation, and monitored cold storage
  • SpeedVac, lyophilizer, offline HPLC, and specialized preparation tools for quantitative proteomics

Advanced equipment

  • Orbitrap Ascend Tribrid Mass Spectrometer with FAIMS
  • Vanquish Neo UHPLC with EasySpray and NanoFlex sources
  • TECAN A200 automated sample preparation

Computational infrastructure

  • Dedicated proteomics servers in a climate-controlled room with UPS and emergency power
  • MASCOT, MaxQuant, Proteome Discoverer, SpectroMine, Spectronaut, DIA-NN, and FragPipe analysis resources
  • Automated parallel HTAPP workflows, 52 TB redundant storage, and nightly institutional backup

Lab Tour

A tour of the Salomon Laboratory’s wet-lab space and the adjacent Brown Proteomics Core Facility. The closing portion shows the dedicated servers directly connected to the mass spectrometers for fully automated proteomic data analysis using software developed in the laboratory.

Institutional Environment

The laboratory is embedded in Brown University’s Laboratories for Molecular Medicine, where wet-lab research is supported by nearby shared facilities, specialized instrumentation, and experienced scientific staff. These resources extend our experimental reach beyond proteomics while keeping complementary approaches close to the laboratory.

Leduc Bioimaging Facility

Confocal, multiphoton, high-content fluorescence, electron microscopy, and specialized imaging sample preparation.

Genomics Core at LMM

Sequencing, quantitative PCR, plate scanning, and LI-COR infrared imaging for nucleic acid and protein measurements.

Flow Cytometry and Sorting

Multiparameter flow analysis, high-throughput acquisition, and cell sorting with FACSAria, FACSCelesta, and Cytek Aurora systems.

Structural Biology and Biophysics

500, 600, and 850 MHz NMR spectroscopy, isothermal titration calorimetry, microscale thermophoresis, circular dichroism, and fluorescence measurements.

LCMS

Advanced mass spectrometry at Brown. Dr. Nicholas DaSilva with the Thermo Scientific Orbitrap Ascend Tribrid Mass Spectrometer. The instrument is located in the shared instrument room immediately adjacent to the Salomon Laboratory, giving Salomon Lab trainees and personnel direct, 24/7 walk-up access. The Orbitrap Ascend was acquired with NIH support (1S10OD036295-01; PI: A. Salomon).
